Introducing Betty Patterson
Betty Patterson of Las Cruces became the ninety-seventh president of NEA-New Mexico on July 15, 2013. She taught special education for 36 years. Betty mentored many new teachers; presently eight of her former student teachers are teaching in the Las Cruces Public Schools.
She served NEA-New Mexico at the state level on the NEA-NM Board and as Vice-President for the past 6 years. At the local level Betty served as local AR, vice-president, president, employee rights chair and on the bargaining team of NEA-Las Cruces, the largest NEA-New Mexico local.
She has also served on many state committees including Student Restraint and Seclusion, RTI, and currently serves on the NMTEACH Teacher Evaluation Advisory Council.
Betty has always believed that Public Education is the answer to our future. She acknowledges the hard work of educators and support professionals. She knows the work of our members is becoming more challenging, but she firmly believes that together NEA-New Mexico members are up to the challenge!
