As educators, we are all committed to the success of every student, and we know the current dire shortages of teachers and other education employees severely limits student opportunities to succeed. As you work to develop responses to the Judicial Decree in Yazzie/Martinez v. State of New Mexico, and as you consider how best to invest the $1.2 billion projected budget surplus, we call upon you to provide:
(1) Increase statewide minimum pay levels for the three levels of Teacher Licensure to $40,000, $50,000 and $60,000;
(2) Establish a statewide public school employee minimum wage of $15 per hour; and an across-the-board minimum pay increase of 10% for all public school employees.
